  12. I've decided to buy a graphics card and a new monitor for my 030 A2000
  13. and I'm looking for some advice.

  15. The following is what I would like my new setup to handle:

  17. * A nice, 8 or 16 color, 800x600 or 1024x768 Workbench, no flicker -
  18.   what would that be, 60 Hz?
  19.  
  20. * A High res screen for Real 3D's editor.
  21.  
  22. * At least 800x600 with as many colors as possible for web
  23.   browsing. Is it possible to get more than 256 colors with AMosaic?
  24.   Some other browser?
  25.  
  26. * 24 bit painting and image manipulation, Photogenics maybe? Image FX
  27.   is a bit expensive.  The Picasso II would give me TV Paint Jr. Any
  28.   comments?

  30. * Color X under NetBSD 1.1 once I get it up and running.

  32. * Mac emulation in color with ShapeShifter.

  37. So, what graphics card?

  39. The Picasso II - 2MB, probably. It's been here for some time and seems
  40. to function O.K. It's cheaper than the Piccolo and I have no plans to
  41. upgrade to Zorro III, my next Amiga is the one with PowerPC and PCI
  42. :-).
  43. What do you think?

  48. 15 inch is probably what I can afford, but which one? I have no ECS or
  49. AGA modes to worry about and can use my old 8833 for the 15 kHz
  50. modes. Do I really need a monitor that can display a lot of different
  51. frequencies?
  52. Is it in this case important to have a monitor that can save settings
  53. for different modes? Or does most modern PC monitors have these
  54. capabilities?
  55. If I chose one without controls for horizontal and vertical size and
  56. position, could I end up with horrible borders?
  57. If I go fore the true multisync (down to 15kHz), video input too would
  58. be nice, is there such a beast?
  59. In short, what specs should I look for and which ones are not so
  60. important?

  63. And finally, I suppose CyberGraphX is the way to go. Where can I get
  64. this, is it commercial now?
  65. With CyberGraphX do I have to fiddle with additional drivers to
  66. achieve the goals above?
