- Time to upgrade!
-
- I've decided to buy a graphics card and a new monitor for my 030 A2000
- and I'm looking for some advice.
-
- The following is what I would like my new setup to handle:
-
- * A nice, 8 or 16 color, 800x600 or 1024x768 Workbench, no flicker -
- what would that be, 60 Hz?
-
- * A High res screen for Real 3D's editor.
-
- * At least 800x600 with as many colors as possible for web
- browsing. Is it possible to get more than 256 colors with AMosaic?
- Some other browser?
-
- * 24 bit painting and image manipulation, Photogenics maybe? Image FX
- is a bit expensive. The Picasso II would give me TV Paint Jr. Any
- comments?
-
- * Color X under NetBSD 1.1 once I get it up and running.
-
- * Mac emulation in color with ShapeShifter.
-
- Wishful thinking?
-
-
- So, what graphics card?
-
- The Picasso II - 2MB, probably. It's been here for some time and seems
- to function O.K. It's cheaper than the Piccolo and I have no plans to
- upgrade to Zorro III, my next Amiga is the one with PowerPC and PCI
- :-).
- What do you think?
-
-
- What monitor?
-
- 15 inch is probably what I can afford, but which one? I have no ECS or
- AGA modes to worry about and can use my old 8833 for the 15 kHz
- modes. Do I really need a monitor that can display a lot of different
- frequencies?
- Is it in this case important to have a monitor that can save settings
- for different modes? Or does most modern PC monitors have these
- capabilities?
- If I chose one without controls for horizontal and vertical size and
- position, could I end up with horrible borders?
- If I go fore the true multisync (down to 15kHz), video input too would
- be nice, is there such a beast?
- In short, what specs should I look for and which ones are not so
- important?
-
-
- And finally, I suppose CyberGraphX is the way to go. Where can I get
- this, is it commercial now?
- With CyberGraphX do I have to fiddle with additional drivers to
- achieve the goals above?
-
-
- A rather long one but I would really appreciate any help or advice,
-
- Jonas.
